Golden Globe Awards 2010

The 2010 Golden Globe Awards hail the start of the awards season. I'm a sucker for celebrities in gorgeous dresses and I must admit I can be a fairly harsh critic. I'm not into boring, nor am I keen on pieces that have been done to death in the past. There were some simply amazing gowns this year in an aray of divine colours and with spectacular details. Kate Hudson was my best dressed for the evening. Her Marchesa gown (yes, I'm biased because I'm obsessed with Marchesa) was, quite simply put, immaculate. The hair, the earrings, the shoes... ah-mazing. Penelope Cruz was the definition of refined, Hollywood glamour. Her exquisite Armani Prive gown suited her figure down to a tee. Drew Barrymore's Atelier Versace gown was touch and go for many but I was a fan. Gorgeous colour, interesting details but still classic. Bravo! Diane Kruger was a knockout. Good on her for supporting Christian Lacroix, a couture label who faced a tumultuous 2009. The gown was a ravishing shade of pink and the white accessories were absolutely perfect. She had fabulous arm candy too.. lucky girl! Now we must sit and wait impatiently for the Oscars!

Smile

Over my holiday break I bought myself a new camera. With advice from one of our wonderful photographers, Claudio Raschella, I purchased the Canon EOS 500D. To say I love this camera would be an understatement - the photos it can take are truly incredible, even for a novice like me. I'm sure all my friends, colleagues and family will be well fed up with me taking their photograph before too long.

So, given my new-found interest, I was thrilled to arrive back at my desk yesterday to find this beautifully calligraphed envelope - of course I just had to photograph it to show you all! The white ink on the dark charcoal envelope is so sophisticated and the detail in the calligraphy is absolutely exquisite. The textured white card inside revealed a botanical motif and a letterpressed printed greeting from the stylist from heaven, Lisa Vorce from Oh, How Charming! I really wouldn't have expected anything less from Lisa - understated perfection.

This beautiful card, coupled with an equally stunning gift, was just the thing to kick off the new year on the right note.

Thank you so much Lisa for this very thoughtful gift.

Monique's Gown of the Moment

Gown designer extrodinaire Monique Lhuillier has shared with us her gown of the moment. The super gorgeous Sundy Rose, from her spring 2010 collection, was inspired by the use of lightweight fabrics that create a soft and ethereal feel. Each organza rose is cut individually using couture techniques. The fabrics used in this gown are of the best quality and the construction is contoured to create a uber feminine silhouette. This is the ultimate gown for those after something romantic, feminine and stylish. Monique Lhuillier is stocked at Helen Rodrigues in Sydney's Double Bay. Humming All the Way

There's nothing more gorgeous than a bride sporting a magnificent headpiece. More and more brides are opting for headpieces, with or without veils, as a way to put a stamp of authenticity on their look. Many headpieces can end up looking the same but it's always refreshing to come across designers who see that individuality plays such an important role in the overall style of a wedding.

I came across The Hummingbird Road and thought I had to share their pieces with you. Specialising in one of a kind hair adornments for weddings, special events or everyday wear the pieces are just divine. Based in Melbourne, the label officially began in early 2009 with their goal of introducing a completely fresh interpretation of hair adornments quickly coming to life. The Hummingbird aesthetic is inspired by the delicate, feminine sophistication of the past eras such as the Regancy era, French Bohemianism era, Fin de Siecle era and the glamour of old Hollywood. Designers Sonnya and Elena have created a line that features pieces in irresistible colour palettes with fine and delicate materials, as well as incorporating gorgeous vintage finds. To shop online or to find out more about this up and coming Australian label visit www.thehummingbirdroad.com.

Towers Above

I love discovering new designers who, simply put, create exquisite pieces, pieces that need no words. Thanks to the lovely Kimberlee at Brown Button (her shop is to die for!) I've discovered Kate Towers. Not only are the pieces themselves simply exquisite but the photographs are equally gorgeous.

Self taught through experimentation, an artist's vision, and hands on execution, Kate Towers creates non-seasonal, one of a kind pieces. Playing with contrasting themes and borrowing inspiration from nature and romance, Kate produces everything by hand, piece by piece, from her Portland studio. From it's beginning in 2000 until spring of 2008, Kate was founder and co-owner of Seaplane, a renowned specialty shop in Portland, featuring local designers and an intriguing collection of hand-made clothing. It is here where Kate developed her own line and helped to inspire the fashion scene that is now Portland. Before re-locating to Portland in 1998, Kate studied illustration, graphic design, and fine arts at the New England School of Art and Design in Boston. Her pieces are currently sold at Seaplane in Portland and on her etsy store katetowers.etsy.com.

The Princess & the Frog

I think it's fair to say that most girls, girls of any age, love the traditional Disney fairytales. I have no doubt it's from where my love of ball gowns, princes and finding my 'happily ever after' spawned. I grew up on The Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty, always hoping that I could have a dress that, like Sleeping Beauty, would change from pink to blue as I was whisked around by my Prince Charming. As I've grown older my ideals have changed somewhat, however my love of a good Disney fairytale hasn't. This being the case my girlfriends and I decided to go and see Disney's latest traditional fairytale, The Princess & the Frog. Such an adorable, gorgeous film. Set in New Orleans, it's the story of a Prince, Prince Naveen, who's turned into a frog and must, to turn back into a human, kiss a princess. The old school, hand drawn animations are, I think, what makes the traditional Disney fairytales so beautiful. It's in cinemas now so be sure to gather the girls and have a Disney Day! Visit www.disney.com.au to view the trailer.

Stud Muffin

Happy New Year to everyone! We're finally back (well I am! the other girls will be back on board next monday (lucky ducks!)) from our fabulous holidays and what a super duper break it was. I spent a lovely week in Byron Bay, followed by 4 days on the Gold Coast catching up with friends and enjoying the sunshine. Adelaide is now in the depths of a heat wave and it's hot. This is the fourth day in the over 40's. Aircon is officially my friend!

When the heat is on I tend to scour the net for shoes, glorious shoes! Studs are hot to trot at the moment and I don't think there's anyone that does studded delights quite like Mr Christian Louboutin. These rather hardcore pearlers will add instant street cred to any outfit. Whether is't s a LBD or something softer they'll give you that 'don't mess with me' look. Watch out! Visit www.christianlouboutin.com to find your nearest stockist or visit www.net-a-porter.com to buy online.
