Bat Your Eyelashes - How To Be Well Mannered With Style
by Marianne Vicelich

I am a girl that is a right old bossy britches when it comes to manners. I've been brought up with a father who's adamant that impecable table manners are one of the most important things you can learn. Although family dinners were often painfully frustrating I am so thankful to know that I could be in the company of royalty and my manners would be perfect. No elbows on the table, when putting down your knife and fork they must be on the plate and not hanging off the side, food to your mouth not your mouth to your food, no reaching or leaning, knife and fork together when finished and no leaving the table until you've been told. They seem like basic rules... but SO many people get them wrong. If you've been watching Master Chef Australia (I'm addicted!!) you would have noticed judge George Calombaris' shocking manners. Licking your knife is just disgusting... and on national television!

I was pleasantly surprised when a cute little parcel containing the gorgeous book, Bat Your Eyelashes - How To Be Well Mannered With Style, arrived on my desk. The book, by Marianne Vicelich, is the ultimate go-to guide for anything to do with manners. With 20 chapters on topics from Modern Matters, Everyday Courtesies and the Perfect Princess to Keeping Up Appearances, Negative Emotions Unmasked and Taboo Topics, you'll find all your questions to do with manners answered. My favourite chapter was #2, Calculatingly Elegant. Info incl. advice on the tone of your voice, gossiping, rumours and all things never to be repeated and how to keep a secret... all very important things a lady should know! It would make a great little gift for your bridesmaids! RRP $34.95. Visit www.batyoureyelashes.com.au to purchase online.

Cruisy Carolina
I am a huge fan of Carolina Herrera. I always have been and I most certainly always will be. Her new Resort 2010 collection, inspired by the high contrast layering of pure graphic lines always focused on in the work of Man Ray, is something else. I'm loving the richness of bright oranges for spring/summer 2010 teemed with silver grey and rich creams. With a glowing tan it is a true knockout colour and would add such spark to any bridal party. I suggest you strongly consider adding some vibrant orange to your next party!

The Pink Parade
There's no denying that one of the most popular colours incorporated into wedding palettes is pink. Whether it's the softest of baby pinks or the brightest of fuchsia's it's a colour that gets attention every time. My fave of the pinks is definitely the brightest of brights. Day or night it looks fabulous! I have a penchant for pink... my GHD is hot pink, my fave lipgloss is hot pink, I have a hot pink pair of shoes and my favourite dress (a new Alice McCall number purchased for an engagement party) is hot pink. We did a super cool hot pink story in issue 6, with loads fab ideas and hints as to the simple ways you can incorporate this vibrant and fun colour into your palette. Don't be affraid to go pink!

Pearly Whites
It is of utmost importance to have your pearly whites pristine for your big day. There is nothing worse than a gorgeous bride smiling with joy, only to showcase a mouthful of yellow chompers. Ewwwww! So, to avoid this I suggest you take the advice of GOSMiLE and keep some handy refreshers in your purse. FLASHLiTES and Touch Up's instantly refresh your smile and breath and are so easy to carry around. For stronger whitening opt for the FLASHLiTES or if you only need to remove a few stains throughout the day go for the Touch Up's. They taste yummy too! Visit www.gosmilebeauty.com.au to find out more about these super handy teeth whiteners.

Touch Up Mini's $14.95 in Mint-licious, Pear-licious and Peach-licious

FLASHLiTES $18.95

If the Shoe Fits... Then Buy Them!
I am an avid shoe fiend. I'm not going to lie... I've had an obsession with high heels ever since I could balance myself well enough to strut down the corridor in my Mum's silver Midas slingbacks, circa 1986. Although sometimes majorly impractical and painful there is nothing more satisfying than purchasing a pair of shoes that gets your heart racing and that you don't want to take off, even when you sleep. Well... my desire to purchase a sparkly new pair of towering heels has, unfortunatley, sky rocketed today. I've discovered Nicholas Kirkwood. Sleek lines, beautiful leathers and fabrics, embellishments, buckles, laces and pearls make up a collection that is truly a work of art. Forget Picasso and Monet... I want Nicholas Kirkwood! Available in Australia at Dio Dato Shoes, Shop 1, 28 Cross Street, Double Bay, Sydney.

BOOK REVIEW

Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man
by Steve Harvey

I have to confess I am a bit of a bookworm. For me reading is my unwind and relax time. I wouldn't consider myself a nerdy bookworm either. I have a penchant for gorgeous coffee table books, fashion books and, with a deep regret, self-help books. I don't need self-help books but (and there is a but) there's something empowering about realising you're not the only one in the world that has 'issues'.

I recently had the book Act Like A Lady, Think Like a Man sent to me by Harper Collins. Writen by comedian and self-proclaimed radio 'superstar' Steve Harvey, it gives a great insight into how men think about life, love and their careers. There are many contributing factors that make men and women different (thank god!). I would love to have the ability to think like a man. For men it's black and white with none of this grey business that takes up so much of women's precious brain space. It's narrow minded to put all men into the same box, although from past experiences they're all really the same... sport, mates, beer, food are all considered high priorities. Regardless of whether you are married, engaged, single, in a relationship or divorced, this book will give you a clearer insight into what men really think about and how they do it. The best bit? It's from a man's perspective. Steve Harvey may be arrogant and a little bit off centre but what he says does make sense... which for a man is a miracle! It's a very easy read (3 nights tucked into a cozy bed) and is definitely worth passing around amongst your girlfriends. A good, quick winter read.

Smitten
As an avid stationery collector, I was delighted to find this beautiful design from e.m.papers in the States.

What's interesting is their designs are emailed to you in a zipped folder together with an editable Word document, ready for printing at your end. This means anyone with basic computer skills can customise their stationery with their own details and achieve a really professional result. Ideal for people who have a small number of guests to invite, or those who simply don't have the time to wait for a printed order to be filled.

They also have a range of other stationery, some free to download, so do stop by and have a look at their site.

Leave Your Stamp
Imprintables are known for their gorgeous children's stationery but their new range of rubber stamps could be just the thing for personalising any number of wedding or shower stationery pieces.

The choice of designs is really sweet - something for every organised girl!

Teal Stealer...
Emilie, you're such a copycat – I'm sure you must have sneaked a peak at my Polyvore set! Mind you, I WAS totally in love with it until I realised the dress was actually from the J Crew Crewcuts children's selection. Never mind - I still love it! Visit Polyvore and see what incarnation in teal you can come up with!
