Paris Pops
Ready-to-wear Autumn/Winter 2009/10

My favourite city in the world turned up the heat when some of the best designers showcased their autumn/winter 09/10 ready-to-wear collections. Glamour evening dresses made a triumphant return as mini's (thankfully) took the back seat. Colour was still a popular choice with greens, reds, pinks, blues and browns heading the colour charge. My favourite shows would have to have been Victor & Rolph, John Galliano and Antonio Berardi. The cut of his dresses were exquisite and demonstrated exactly how the female form should be flaunted. Galliano threw a theatre extravaganza with amazing headpieces and embellishments while Victor & Rolph showed why sequins are making a massive comback. All hail sparkle!

Pretty in Pink
One of the most popular colours for weddings would have to be pink. In any shade pink can turn a wedding from drab and dreary to delicious and dreamy. With so many flowers in pink you'll never struggle to find that perfect bloom. One of my fave colours to mix with pink is silver. It looks so sophisticated and makes a great alternative to black. A cute little cocktail dress in silver matched with the cutest pink pumps and exquisite jewellery will instantly add class. I've pieced together a Polyvore to help give you some inspiration when deciding on the best ways to incorporate this divine colour scheme into your wedding. Don't be affraid to go pink. Afterall, so many men look super sexy in a pink shirt!

Takes The Cake
Last week Emma from Ruby's Cakes dropped off some beautifully iced little cakes to our office for us to try. We had 2 individual banana cakes and 2 chocolate fudge cakes, both flavours were absolutely delicious! Emma trained in Cake Design and Decoration at the Westminster Kingsway College in London, and ran a successful cake design business in the UK. She has now returned to Adelaide to launch Ruby's Cakes. See below for some of her lovely designs.

Alex Perry Hits the High Seas
Not one to do things by halves Alex Perry took his 2009 autumn/winter collection launch to the high seas, opting to showcase his new collection to the who's who of the Sydney set aboard the Queen Mary II. In a first for Australian fashion the show featured flowing gowns in a juicy aray of colours that didn't scream winter. The celebrity set including Sarah Murdoch, Natalie Bassinthwaighte, Sophie Faulkiner, Deborah Hutton and Kerry Anne Kennerly sipped champagne as models sashayed down the top floor deck. Alex Perry sure knows how to throw a party!

Real Wedding Style
I admit, I am guilty! Since the birth of my baby girl Eliza, I have been an avid follower of our blog but have left all the hard work to Jane, Emilie and Emma to post inspiring entries for you all. Now that we have our Autumn issue on the press I have decided to start my blog entries... Over the years I have been very privileged to be able to style and coordinate weddings for hundreds of brides. I spent some time looking over the photos last week and thought I would share some of them with you. It just goes to show that true style never dates as some of these weddings I worked on nearly a decade ago show!

Watch this space, there are so many more pics which I would love to show you...

Behr... Oh Behr!
If you are an avid reader of Style Guide you will notice that I am madly in love with headpieces. More and more brides are choosing to walk down the isle with a headpiece, as opposed to a veil. They standout, add individuality to a look and can frame a face beautifuly. Bridesmaids have also taken note of this trend. What a perfect way to adorn your favourite girls! Recently I came across Jennifer Behr. I was speechless. There is nothing I can say that does these spectacular headpieces justice. Made from her studio in Brooklyn, she is inspired by silks, feathers, stones, pythons and leathers. What a truly uniqe combination! Jennifer Behr is a favorite among Hollywood's A-list, including Natalie Portman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Katy Perry and Heidi Klum. Jennifer Behr's pieces have graced the pages of many renowned mags such as W, Vogue, Elle and Nylon. The collection has also been worn multiple times by Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester, a.k.a. Blair. Jennifer Behr hair accessories can be found in over 40 boutiques in the US and internationally at stores including Bergdorf Goodman, Colette, Browns Focus, Lane Crawford and On Pedder. I'm just waiting to find out whether they ship to Australia so keep posted! Visit www.jenniferbehr.com to drool over the divine collection.

Marvelous Milan
Milan Fashion Week autumn/winter 09/10

The home of pizza and gelati threw open its doors to fashions most forward thinkers when Milan Fashion Week got underway on the 26th Feb. Following on from the London and New York trends colour was again a hit for the cooler months. Mustard's, blue's, red's and pink's adorned the most coveted black dresses (my fave was Gianfranco Ferre's velvet number). Immaculate tailoring, thanks to Jil Sander and Gianfranco Ferre, showed why the Italian's are a force to be reckoned with.

Pretty Picados
Lark have some really lovely handmade products, one of which is this wedding picado (papercut). Images of hearts, birds and lace are cut into the garlands, each one measuring 4 metres long. Wouldn't they look great en masse?

A Wonderful Weekend Away
On Saturday night I attended the launch of The Farm - a spectacular venue in the Barossa Valley, SA. Elli and Saskia Beer, daughters of the irrepressible Maggie Beer, have opened The Farm with a view to offering a really flexible function centre for weddings and corporate events alike. The venue itself was architecturally designed and it shows. What struck me was the perfect, neutral minimalism of the room - it would lend itself to any style of decor and could be dressed up or left just as it is. And it's big - the area could easily seat 150+ for dinner or many more for cocktail functions. The view, overlooking a lake is beautiful too, with expansive windows letting the natural sunlight flood indoors.

Now, the food - let's talk about the food! It was fantastic. There were little puffs of parmesan that burst with gooey cheese as you bit into them, delicious mushrooms on puff pastry shells, Maggie's famous paté on toast, an asian style beef carpaccio followed by goose rillette - and that was just to start. After pre-dinner drinks by the lake, on a perfect summer's night, we were led into the function centre where a large table was set with platters of smoked trout, Saskia's lamb and chicken, farm-style pies, salads and rustic loaves of bread. So much food!

I had a great time mingling with culinary celebrities including Maggie and the lovely Kylie Kwong and wine legends including the respected Peter Lehmann, who was a jolly nice chap.

There is plenty of local accommodation ranging from the large Novatel hotel, to quaint little B&Bs so it would make a really lovely wedding destination for couples wanting to treat their guests to the sights and tastes of the beautiful Barossa Valley.
